As some may know, I laser cut all the wood art layers myself. I have a workshop at my home where I do all of my laser work as well as a partial wood shop. Working with wood and being creative have always been a passion of mine. I love mixed media (as you may see if you happen to check out the earrings I create.) I love mixing wood, leather, metal, stone, shell and any other beautiful media I find.
I started the layered art projects and painting classes as a way to share this fun layered art form with the community. My dear friend Alisha and I run these events and are there to help guide the participants in their layered art journey. Often we hear people say... "I don't know if I like this color combination" or "Im not sure this is going to look good" but by the end of the class, the colors come together, the layers add depth and the imperfections of earlier in the class make the art POP! Participants leave our events loving their creations which always makes us so happy!
Tonight Alisha and I painted our examples for the March Mountain piece. We love the final product- both of ours are so different. Her light blue sky is airy and bright, mine is darker and mixed with multiple dark colors. Alisha uses smooth strokes, light dry brushing and blending. I used heavier paint with blotting the paint on to create a textured look and then used a damp towel to wipe the paint off the sky layer to help the wood grain show through. Both very different, yet both so great!
The mountain layers are in process, and I'm also putting together the project for April. March will be our first evening class and we hope for a decent turn out. If you can't make it, we hope to see you at another upcoming class.
